    EAT HEALTHY! SHOP AT THE LAWTON FARMER'S MARKET!

    Farmers' markets are one of the oldest forms of direct marketing by small farmers. From the traditional "mercados" in the Peruvian Andes to the unique street markets in Asia, growers all over the world gather weekly to sell their produce directly to the public. In the last decade they have become a favorite marketing method for many farmers throughout the United States, and a weekly ritual for many shoppers, including right here in Southwest Oklahoma.

    From late spring through early fall, the Lawton Farmer's Market, sponsored by the Southwest Oklahoma Growers Association, sets up at the Comanche County Fairgrounds, 920 S Sheridan Road, every Saturday from 7:30am until 11:00am - or until vendors sell out. You'll find the very best Southwest Oklahoma growers have to offer, including vegetables, fruit, eggs, honey, meats, natural and organic foods, cheese - whatever happens to be in season and available.

    Last Saturday, May 26th, the Lawton Farmer's Market was expecting free-range chicken and duck eggs, as well as other usual items such as cabbage, squash, cucumbers, broccoli, zucchini, potatoes, green beans, carrots, beets, radishes, tomatoes, lettuce, vegetable and flower bedding plants, spinach, mustard greens, onions, potatoes, green beans, and blackberries.

    To learn more about the Lawton Farmer's Market click here for their website or here for their Facebook page.

    Magic 95 is Station of the Year!

    The Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters has recognized Magic 95 as the winner of the 2011 Non-Metro Radio Station of the Year. Magic 95 was one of four finalists in the competition, which is judged by out-of-state broadcasters. The award is based on community service, local programming, promotions, and business accomplishments. The non-metro division comprises stations outside of Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

     Magic 95 also picked up two other awards: one for 2nd Place in the Radio Commercial category for a Dragon West commercial, and our 17th Community Service Award. Since the category was created in 1998, Magic 95 has won more Community Service Awards than any other radio station in Oklahoma. What an honor to be recognized by our industry!

    Magic 95 enjoyed an incredibly good year in 2011. Among our accomplishments:

    Community Service - Magic 95 conducted numerous fundraisiers helping to raise nearly $20,000 for Big Ron's Fight Against Cancer, the Lawton Food Bank, the March of Dimes, the Salvation Army and the Lawton Food 4 Kids program. Other organizations that benefited from our efforts included Toys for Tots, Oklahoma Blood Institute, Stop the Hate in Lawton, J. Roy Dunning Children's Shelter, Moonlight Walk Against Drugs, and many others.

    Local Programming - On-air content that proved to be award-winning included Dog Gone & Cat Too, Eisenhower High School Football, the Lawton Fort Sill Cavalry, Comanche County Basketball Tournament, Brisa Tropical, Stock Market Update, Strange & Useless News, Wayback Wednesday, The Birthdays, and Health Tips.

    Promotions - Easily our most enjoyable category, promotions conducted during the year included the Magic 95 Fitness Revolution, Rock, Stock & Barrels, the Get Lucky Car Show & Poker Run, and the 95 Days of Summer Adventure Edition.

    Business Accomplishments - Achieving 98.9% of our sales goal certainly helped us do what was needed to become an award-winning radio station. Overall, 2011 was our third best year ever financially - and that says a lot when you have 29 years of history and when you consider the state of the economy. We launched the Magic 95 Marketplace, began broadcasting in Wichita Falls (on 107.1 FM), relaunched live streaming on our website, became a Certified Healthy Business by the Oklahoma State Department of Health, sponsored many worthwhile causes and organizations (Lawton Fort Sill Cavs Chargers, IZW, Leadership Lawton Fort Sill, Cameron University Athletics and the 580 Roller Girls, to name just a few), and we published the 50th edition of OKIE Magazine.

    Staff involvement in the Lawton Fort Sill community remains impressive too, with Magic 95 employees volunteering on numerous boards, commissions and committees, including Fort Sill Federal Credit Union, the Lawton Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce, the J. Roy Dunning Children's Shelter, United Way, Clean Air Lawton, Leadership Lawton Fort Sill, and AMBUCS.

    Finally, perhaps our greatest achivement is to maintain our status as a stand-alone, locally-owned free over-the-air broadcast radio station.

    However, none of this could have been accomplished without you - our listeners and our advertisers. With this in mind, we would like very sincerely to share this award with everyone in the Lawton Fort Sill community!

    Magic 95 has teamed up with the Lawton Family YMCA to present the Fitness Challenge, giving you a chance to really get serious about improving your health and changing your life.

    We've chosen four finalists to take the Fitness Challenge. Here is who they are and their objectives:

    Twenty-five year-old Vanessa N. of Lawton, who wants to avoid getting type 2 diabetes - which runs in her family - by adopting proper diet and exercise;

    26-year-old Trey H. of Lawton, whose parents both passed away prematurely due to poor health and does not want the same thing to happen to him;

    23-year-old Dusti H. of Lawton, who wants to learn how to take better care of her body;

    and 24-year-old Amanda R. of Lawton, who wants to lose weight, gain self-confidence and live a healthier life.

    None were members of the Y previously, and all of them have indicated a sincere desire to improve their health and change their life. Each has received a 3 month membership at the Lawton Family YMCA with a personal trainer, nutritionist and a health assessment. The winner of the Fitness Challenge will win a 1-year membership to the Y plus a prize package.

    This is what the Magic 95 Fitness Revolution is all about.
